The Joy of a New Day

Late breakfast (yep paper plate and plastic cup…eating by the pool!) on this glorious Saturday morning.

A soaking rain yesterday afternoon left sparking drops on the top of the birdcage, like glittery diamonds overhead. The almost cloudless sky is a perfect color of blue. The few marshmallow puffs float lazily by. The winds are mild with an occasional gust but it’s comfortable. The skies are not yet busy with aircraft from Tampa or Clearwater St Pete airports.

The cardinals…oh these song birds! Their music is so joyful to the soul. This beautiful backyard preserve is a haven for wildlife that I hold close to my heart. But the cardinals are here every day warbling beautiful tunes to others across the preserve. There are multiple families that have built nests in the protection of the overgrowth. Many different birds enjoy these “woods,” yet the cardinal is my favorite. HOWEVER, sometimes the very smart blackbirds, with loud caws, awaken me in mornings when I prefer to sleep in…still the birds of nature are dramatically bold.

Another blessed day, with a thankful heart lifting praises. I should be up and moving but the peaceful visual and auditory scene keeps me reveling in the clear blue sky, the greenery all around and the quietness that continues to penetrate the stillness. I’m blessed to have this wonderful view of nature in the quiet i now love.

My bougainvilleas are leafing beautifully after a “winter” of frost bitten leaves. The blooms, taken by the winds of early April, are renewing…slowly. But other plants are sharing their beautiful blooms. Soon the bougainvilleas will be filling their space with color!

My huge gardenia bush/tree is heavy with blooms! What a wonderful fragrance it brings! I have to keep red flags around it…the lawn guys can be brutal ☺️
I have new lavender and rosemary plants. They’re still small but wow…they require lots of water! But certainly worth it!

I’m so grateful for God’s gift of beautiful plants…and the beautiful song birds that awaken me to the glory of a new day. Whether you are out and about or sitting quietly, find joy in this new day and make it an adventure.

Enjoy each sunrise and each sunset and all the hours in between.
I am so blessed to have the beauty of nature within the city.
