Love to grow on…part deux

So the adventure continues…what an adventure it was!

Tuesday night after the week end reunion, Mike picked me up on a motorcycle! Didn’t ask if I would ride behind him but he did ask my girls if I could ride with him. Lisa responded…”but you don’t have a helmet!” He promised he would be extra careful, so she agreed. Off we went down Preston Road…not busy in 1982. We had dual headphones with music but could also talk to each other. He asked me how I felt about nudity, I responded it depended on who was nude 🙂 It was a pleasant ride. After about 30 minutes we pulled up behind a house in The Colony…he asked me to stay on the bike while he stood up and looked over the fence. He asked the couple at the pool if we could come in…yes. It was then I found out why he asked the nudity question! His veterinarian friend and girlfriend we completely nude. Do you know how hard it is to look someone in the eye when they are bare naked?!?! She did get up and put on a robe…he didn’t. We visited for a while and the couple said…were going to bed, but stay and enjoy the pool, which we did. Lots of talking about ourselves, learning about the past 20 years, a kiss or two, then on back to Dallas.

Mike asked me if I wanted to come to the drop zone (skydiver talk) to watch him fly a couple of skydivers who wanted to jump. He flew occasionally at this small airport to keep up his flying hours. Of course I did! Seagoville was again not close to where I lived, but I was always up for adventure. Arrived without a problem and he had already been flying. He asked me if I wanted to fly with them…sure I said, more adventure. Little did I know how much! He strapped a parachute on my back, helped me into a plane with no passenger seat! I asked why an he replied, just in case!! I sat backwards in the cockpit as we climbed to 10,00 feet, the skydivers went out one by one, and then…AND THEN, he tried to beat them back to the ground in the plane. And so he did! And I agreed to continue to see him! Who would have predicted the adventures we would have…because after being together every night for two weeks, he asked my girls if he could ask me to marry him. Then proceeded to get on one knee and propose.

We married in a judge’s chambers on 08/02/82 so he could remember the date Just over two weeks after the reunion. Our children were witnesses, my two girls and his son. We took the kids to Chuck E Cheese for a reception, then took them to their other parent and we headed to the airport with no destination in mind.

We decided on Durango Colorado, flew to Albuquerque and then drove to Durango. Being it was the end of peak tourist season he said we most likely couldn’t get a room at the historic Strater Hotel, but we would try. Yay we did! There two rooms. one for $55 and one for $65 per night He didn’t impress me when he said the $55 one. As we walked away, he stopped and said what’s the difference in the rooms? The $65 is the honeymoon suite…and he changed his mind! Perfect…hmmm the honeymoon suite was directly above the Diamond Belle Saloon. Lots of banging on the ceiling below. LOL I fell in love with Durango. We returned many times for our anniversaries.

The adventures never stopped…Grand Cayman (5 times a year for my work!), SCUBA diving, Vancouver, Victoria, a North Lake Tahoe ski lease every winter, discovering Utah and New Mexico, especially Mesa Verde, Vienna Austria, and the ultimate Italy. Lots of weekend adventures while living in California.

And they said it wouldn’t last…he said he found his princess and I found my knight…
